Juarez, Mexico has the unwanted distinction of being one of the most violent places in the world—in fact, at one time it was known as the murder capital of the world.
Thankfully, today the city has become much safer, but still, children growing up there are in incredibly vulnerable situations. As a result, there are several projects devoted to children in this area and we had the honor of bringing training to local caregivers doing just that.
In September 2014 and 2015 we worked with 22 Local Experts and took them through our Celebrating Children Workshop looking at children’s development, how trauma affects the brain and what children need to become resilient. The staff working with these children received critical training in child development and protection, as well as how to work more effectively with children from backgrounds of intense loss and abuse.
Our belief is that providing knowledge and empowerment through training is that the long-term results of the ministries will be reflected in the statistics of Juarez, Mexico. It will no longer be known for its vulnerability and strife, but by the great opportunities and future for the children of Juarez.
