LOOM TRAINING

Loom International’s training builds capacity and accelerates leaders who are making a positive impact in their communities.

We invest in individuals by training practitioners who are actively engaged in their communities, thereby enhancing their skills and effectiveness. These change-makers have hands-on experience and valuable insights that drive social progress for vulnerable children. Our goal is to see all humans, including children, treated with dignity and respect and honored for their intrinsic value.

Our role is to provide training programs that build on their existing knowledge and empower them to increase their impact.

Our signature training program, the Celebrating Children Workshop (CCW) (to be known as Roots of Belonging Workshop from 2026), exemplifies evidence-based practice. The CCW is based on the simple truth that God desires all humanity to thrive. The curriculum explores how this desire is anchored in the adult/child relationship. We cover a range of topics, including the Child in Context, Listening to Children, Resilience, Safeguarding Children, and more. (See the complete curriculum outline below.)

Our classroom sessions are interactive, transformative, and fun! Our programs are designed to equip adult learners through experiential learning that combines practical best practices, theoretical foundations, and a biblical framework. We incorporate activities that accommodate various learning styles, creating a model that can be easily replicated, whether our partners are training children, local government officials, caregivers, or teachers.

The effectiveness of this model is demonstrated by the expansion of our training program across eight nations, utilizing various formats that range from training mothers under a tree to instructing the social welfare department in an urban setting. This signature program is the catalyst for the movement we are seeing.

We’re thrilled to see graduates of the Celebrating Children Workshop actively sharing their knowledge through Celebrating Children Seminars (CCS), energizing our grassroots movement across various regions!

Our goal is to train multipliers and equip leaders with the skills and resources needed to enhance their impact within their communities.

In the areas where we work, we often observe dedicated individuals who strive hard but fail to achieve the desired outcomes for the children they serve. This challenge is often linked to a lack of training and insufficient skills in two key areas:

  1. Working with vulnerable and traumatized children and their communities.
  2. The capacity to manage organizations and lead them toward sustainability.

Our training program addresses both of these issues.

Participants complete the program with new skills, enhanced confidence, and a personal motivation to continue making positive changes in their families and communities. Upon successful completion of the workshop, graduates receive all workshop materials, including facilitator notes and presentation slides.

Carol - final copy

Carol in Tanzania

In the Nshupu village of Tanzania, social innovators Carol and Joe were invited to conduct a focused training on trauma for members of a church. Their target audience was couples, but upon their arrival, the pastor informed them that many single parents had requested a day of teaching as well.

On the first day, the room was filled with single parents, and Carol and Joe presented their information on trauma. At the end of the day, a single mother named Nina approached Carol for a conversation. Nina had experienced significant trauma in her life, which led her to make the difficult decision to send three of her children to live with relatives. Although she led a children’s ministry in the church, she had never mentioned those three children.

The training opened Nina’s eyes to the reasons behind her past decisions. Over the past month, Carol has been working with Nina, who has decided to try to reunite with her children. As Nina finds healing, she is also able to bring healing to her children!

We provide onsite training workshops, the Celebrating Children Workshop (CCW) as our signature program.

In addition to this workshop, we offer:

  • Coaching for Leaders: We help enhance the effectiveness of leaders through personalized coaching.
  • Ongoing Relational Support: We invest one-on-one time to mentor leaders, helping them reach their ministry goals. (See Happiness’ story below for an example.)
  • Facilitator Training: This training* equips participants to effectively teach adults using various learning styles and creative engagement techniques.
    * This training is available to graduates of the Celebrating Children’s Workshop.
  • Online Project Management Training: We ensure that organizations achieve their intended outcomes through our comprehensive project management training.

Happiness in Tanzania

Happiness Nassary has dedicated her entire career to working with children. After attending the CCW (Celebrating Children Workshop), she envisioned expanding the curriculum into a three-month program to prepare individuals who want to work with children. The Loom staff collaborated with her, listening to her ideas and providing support as she developed her course.

She successfully launched the “Advocating for Children and Youth School.” The Loom staff participated by delivering foundational lectures during the first few weeks, and other CCW graduates also contributed as lecturers throughout the three-month course.

The testimonies from students during their practical phase were inspiring. They conducted open-air training sessions on parenting skills and the importance of listening to children, and were even invited into homes to share additional insights. Many students have since initiated new projects and expanded their ministries across Tanzania.

Our training is engaging, grounded in science, enjoyable, and practical, adhering to the best practices for adult learning.

Testimony from a local pastor:

“For me, when I heard those teachings, I decided not to apply them first in the church but first in my own family.  One of my sons is 15 years old, and I have never appreciated him for anything he has done.  So I decided to sit and listen to him – I had never listened to him when he faced struggles or challenges in his work.  As I listened and encouraged, I noticed that he began to put in more effort into his work and was doing an amazing job.  I have seen a lot of fruit from listening and encouraging my son – I thought I knew how to parent, but I realized that I am not doing a good job.  I have come to realize that I need help in my parenting.  Now that I have applied it to my family, I will teach this in the church.  The teaching on listening to children has changed how I will parent.”

Oscar - final copy

Oscar in Burundi

Oscar Nibigira from Burundi attended the Celebrating Children Workshop (CCW) in Tanzania, where he demonstrated how investing in the training of one individual can spark a grassroots movement. Sitting in the front row, he absorbed everything with a beaming smile. As the children and youth coordinator for a Central African denomination, he felt inspired by what he learned. After completing the first part of CCW, he returned to Burundi and trained other youth workers. He then went on to train women at a weekly church meeting, engaging mothers in rural communities.

In attendance were 87 women who learned about the value of children and the importance of pregnant women maintaining a nutritious diet. The women left with a newfound understanding of their roles in their children’s lives. Within months, they began to see a decrease in malnutrition rates and a decline in infant mortality rates. Oscar continues to run seminars to expand his impact in the community.

But he didn’t stop there. In a WhatsApp message, he shared, “My denomination, the EEAC church, organized a training session for Sunday school teachers from all local churches in the country, held from September 2024, where I was invited as one of the trainers. We had 92 participants who were Sunday school teachers from 68 churches, and 6,886 children will benefit from these lessons.” The strategy is effective. Leaders like Oscar can contextualize the material, reach areas that the Loom team may not be able to access, and help communities reimagine how God’s intentions for children can foster their growth. Thriving children lead to Thriving Communities.
