LOOM INTERNATIONAL BELIEVES

Loom International stands with our partners, demonstrating the transformational power of relational, local relationships creating meaningful change for vulnerable children, their families, and communities.

Loom partners with Social Innovators, people of power and wonder, bringing hope and transformation in their communities.

Our partners, who facilitate our Celebrating Children Workshop (CCW), play the key role in Loom’s training strategy. The impact of these seminars has significantly increased over the past four years, and the momentum continues to grow.

In the words of Mary, a Kenyan Partner, a Facilitator, and a Person of Power and Wonder,

“Loom’s Celebrating Children training is a life-changing investment that instills hope for generations.”

We are convinced that partnering with local leaders, building deep trust-based relationships, and providing ongoing training will yield the most sustainable and effective results in their communities.

Lasting change starts with individuals and families and extends to neighborhoods, villages, and broader communities.

Our model begins with one transformed person who engages with their neighbor, and then a small group forms. Soon after, a school principal may say, “Please teach my teachers,” and a pastor might request, “Train our church.” A local government official could even invite the trainers to their meetings, making this work spread rapidly. Together, Change is Possible.

Accelerating capacity growth in these social innovators is the key to sustainability for the whole community.

ALL OVER AFRICA…

Loom has a network of partners. These are people who share our priority towards the well-being of children and give their time, skills, and gifts to achieve this purpose. Our partners engage in their communities through building schools, clinics, anti-trafficking actions, tree planting, agriculture, and programs to end early childhood marriage. These actions result in thriving communities. They value Loom’s relational commitment and investment in their skills and knowledge as a key influence in what they do in the community.

“Celebrating Children Seminars have an eternal impact on communities – in promotion of children’s rights due to parental care; reduced abortions in families; child inclusion activities in church programs; special attention to children with disabilities in schools; children valued in families; child protection being exercised, and also caretakers discovering themselves.”

Bosco in Uganda

Bosco felt a deep calling to establish a school for vulnerable children in his home region in western Uganda. During a Celebrating Children Workshop capacity training session that focused on the historical legacy of Jesus’ followers and their global impact on education, he decided to pursue this vision. Today, his school enrolls over 600 children, and he has trained local government leaders to advocate for children’s rights. Additionally, he has taught his teachers using the knowledge he gained from the CCW.

Our partners, Social Innovators, are dedicated to bringing hope in the face of challenges such as poverty, human trafficking, HIV/AIDS, and lack of education, all while operating with minimal resources. Research has shown that social innovators often say they lack the relationships, networks, and tools needed to achieve greater success. That’s where Loom comes in. We intentionally partner with these innovators, learning together to maximize their existing efforts. We celebrate their creativity and dedication to local solutions while striving with them to identify what they need for long-term success in empowering vulnerable populations.

CCW Graduates together bring hope, water, and training to a Tanzanian village

Florida (flor-ee-da) attended a Celebrating Children Workshop in 2023. Former participants in the CCW, knowing the kind of work she does, urged Florida to participate in the workshop. Florida runs a project focused on serving vulnerable children and women. She participated in this course and also built a relational connection with the Loom staff, sharing her dreams and hopes for her community.

Florida is focused on sustainability. Women in her project bake bread, make jewellery, dye fabric, and are tailors for their livelihood. On returning to her community, Florida trained her staff using the knowledge gained from the course and adopted various practices in the best interest of the children. She then trained local leaders on the importance of taking care of children and working for their best interests to see the community thrive. In her village, a significant challenge was the lack of access to water, requiring residents to spend hours each day trekking to find a source.

While in Arusha, Tanzania, Florida connected with Carol Munisi, a Kenyan working in Tanzania. Along with Janna Moats, they decided to address the water challenge. Florida mobilized her community, while Carol and Janna focused on raising funds. As a result, the village now has access to water, positively impacting the lives of every resident—men, women, and children. They were able to purchase a solar pump that was installed to serve the village, school, and the job creation project Florida runs.

Our joy comes from multiple dimensions: the most significant being that the location finally has access to water. Additionally, half of the funds were raised in East Africa by a Kenyan for a project led by a Tanzanian.

At Loom, our goal is to realize God’s desire for all humanity to thrive and to achieve this sustainably. Thus, this collaboration in Tanzania is a source of great delight. “Together, Change is Possible.”

Jacinta in Tanzania

Jacinta Mukolwe lives and works in Arusha, Tanzania. She started a sewing group for young at-risk mothers in her community to teach them a skill that they could use to support their young children, as well as core life skills they missed as children. Loom heard about her initiative and sat down with her to learn more about it. She talked of the excitement of providing the girls with a tangible skill that was changing their lives as well as teaching them their worth and rebuilding their identity, but she also felt stuck.

Her strength lay in building relationships with the girls and providing training, but she lacked expertise in systems, including budget creation, financial tracking, and wage management. She needed to find a sustainable market for the girls to enter after they graduated from the program.Loom worked with Jacinta to set up a simple budget and bookkeeping system that was suitable for her context and easy to manage. We provided her training through our Celebrating Children Workshop where she learnt more about how to work with at-risk youth, and business training to help her scale up. Then, we helped her raise the funds to open The Second Chance, a storefront where graduates can work sewing school uniforms and other handmade items. It’s simple. Jacinta lived and worked in Arusha. The young mothers came to her because she was already a beacon of hope in her community. She listened. She understood the problem. She acted to bring a solution.
